  • ‘Knight and Day’ Review

Knight and Day on Letterboxd https://boxd.it/17po

    – Think Charade or North by Northwest + Mission Impossible
    – James Mangold is one of my favorite modern directors!
    – This feels like a throwback kind of movie
    – Definitely a movie that’s aware of itself and has fun with the clichés of the genre
    – The scene where Roy and June are talking in the car, then the pan out to show them in a car being towed in the 18 wheeler that was shown a few seconds prior 😂
    – Great cast. Cruise and Diaz are wonderful but so are Paul Dano, Peter Saarsgard, Gal Godat, and Viola Davis
    – Fun soundtrack! First The Scorpions, now Hall and Oates!
    – The note says Alps, Train
    – Action comedy IMO is a hard genre to truly get right. So far, this movie is accomplishing that
    – Maybe nothing groundbreaking, but a fun pastiche of the genre
    – Love the ending! And I love callbacks 😂

  • Undercover Cops

Acting as an undercover police officer is one of the most dangerous jobs there is today. Deep Cover, Donnie Brasco, and The Departed are three great movies to watch to get a glimpse of that lifestyle from the comfort of your couch!

    The Departed on Letterboxd https://boxd.it/28MA

    Donnie Brasco on Letterboxd https://boxd.it/1YRA

  • Something’s Wrong with the TV…

Watching TV is supposed to be a relaxing past time. Network, Poltergeist, and Stay Tuned may prove otherwise. After watching any of these movies, however, you might need some fresh air!

    Network on Letterboxd https://boxd.it/1VqG

    Poltergeist on Letterboxd https://boxd.it/2a0o

    Stay Tuned on Letterboxd https://boxd.it/1yDM

  • ‘Cop Land’ Review

    Cop Land on Letterboxd https://boxd.it/27ly

A tale of police corruption that blurs the lines between sides of the law. The movie feels very much like a noir western. Especially the action packed ending!

Wonderful cast. Terrific plot. Hard hitting action sequences. James Mangold (also directed Logan) is a fantastic director.

  • ‘The Family’ Review

    The Family on Letterboxd https://boxd.it/3LkW

    – Directed by Luc Besson, best known for Leon, The Professional and The Fifth Element
    – Solid cast, although I was not familiar with the actress who plays Belle. She starred as Quinn from the TV show Glee.
    – This movie definitely has some of that Transporter humor in it, which was written by Besson
    – I was expecting this to be an action movie. So far it’s more comedy, albeit dark humor, than action
    – The caller at dinner mentions the film Some Came Running, which has a plot similar to this film
    – They’re showing Goodfellas instead 😂
    – I’m a sucker for anything from Luc Besson
    – While a tad uneven in tone, I enjoyed it. If you enjoy movies such as Snatch, Goodfellas, The Professional, The Transporter, you’ll find a lot to like from this!

  • ‘My Neighbor Totoro’ Review

My Neighbor Totoro on Letterboxd https://boxd.it/20eA

Miyazaki is magical. Cat Bus rocks!

This movie feels like chicken soup and a warm, snuggly blanket

  • ‘Deep Cover’ Review

    Deep Cover on Letterboxd https://boxd.it/1D5g

    – New Jack City + Donnie Brasco + Goodfellas
    – 90s neo-noir about a clean cop who is persuaded to go undercover to help break up a drug ring
    – Morpheus! Although he’s credited as Larry Fishburne here
    – Eddie offers John his half eaten popsicle 😂
    – I really like the use of neon. The cinematography is great!
    – Fav line. The arresting cop tells John “I’ll be on you like stink on doo doo.” I guess he’s watching his language because he’s a Christian?
    – “I’m Audi 5000” is SUCH a 90s thing to say
    – This movie has a unique, street level view of being an undercover cop
    – “It’s the laundress’ maths. It’s the laundress’ maths.” Why is Jeff Goldblum channeling Peter Lorre in this scene? 🤣
    – Scarface reference. Talking about Al Pacino
    – Jeff Goldblum is so great. Jeff Goldblum, Steve Buscemi, Christopher Walken, etc. The type of actor that is great, no matter the part.
    – Not often that poetry is used in a character’s dialogue
    – I felt a bit of Asian film influence toward the end. John Woo’s A Better Tomorrow, perhaps?
Very solid and entertaining movie! I definitely recommend it if you like crime films like the ones I mentioned previously

  • ‘9’ Review

    9 on Letterboxd https://boxd.it/1Scm

    – Toy Story + The Iron Giant + Wall-E
    – Produced by Tim Burton and has a great voice cast
    – Fav line. 5, talking with 9 about 2, “You know, you’re just like him. You forget to remember to be scared.”
    – I absolutely LOVE the steampunk aesthetic the film has
    – Lol 8 using a magnet on his head
    – The book they find is about Paracelsus, a 16th century physician, who is best known as the father of toxicology
    – Upon researching Paracelsus, he was a fascinating contributor to modern medicine. Google him!!
    – Pretty dark for a” kid’s movie” 😳. Some scenes are pure nightmare fuel
    – Interesting Wizard of Oz reference, playing Somewhere Over the Rainbow
    – A fairly bleak story so don’t expect much humor. Otherwise, a very solid adventure tale!

  • ‘Showtime’ Review

    Showtime on Letterboxd https://boxd.it/22ts

Lethal Weapon meets The Truman Show
    – I love buddy cop movies! I also like this spin on that concept. Meta, I believe is the term.
    – One of the TV producers is the voice of Lois in Family Guy, Alex Borstein
    – Mitch mentions the movie Serpico. Serpico is a great cop movie! Al Pacino plays a cop doing his best to bring down corruption within the police department
    – Trey’s audition 😂
    – YES! William Shatner is their show’s director! “Officer. T. J. Hooker.”
    – Fav line “What if it’s cyanide?” 🤣
    – Trey realizes it’s the perfect time to give his ‘origin story’ for the show
    – The cameraman is Frank from 30 Rock lol
    – His shirt says Folsom Prison Film School 🤣🤣 like he’s so “badass” of a camera guy
    – Trey has a Serpico poster above his bed, which mirrors Mitch
    – She pulls back the curtain to reveal the view is a brick wall. Clever. Meaning his whole personality is boring/his work.
    – They gave them both new cars for the show 😂. That they can’t drive very well.
    – One thing I look for in movies is ‘commitment to the concept’. So far, this movie has that in spades.
    – Mitch is just saying all the ‘rogue cop movie’ catchphrases 😂
    – Eddie Murphy is hilarious! I feel like his 1995-2005 era is actually underrated. Movies like this, Pluto Nash, Haunted Mansion, Shrek… His performances are solid.
    – The skip from the club to them in the car is jarring. They just walked out of the club after that scene?!
    – I kinda like his new apartment. And his dog’s name is Powder 🤣
    – Pretty solid overall. It’s pretty similar to The Other Guys!

  • ‘Wind River’ Review

    Wind River on Letterboxd https://boxd.it/dR3i

    – The creator of Yellowstone wrote the movie

    – Western set in modern day Wyoming

    – Hawkeye and Scarlet Witch are both in it!

    – Fav line. Chip “I wanted to fight the whole world. You got any idea what feels like?” Cory “I do. But I decided to fight the feeling instead. Cause I figured the world would win. “

    – A very moving film IMO
