‘A Time to Kill’ Review

A Time to Kill on Letterboxd https://boxd.it/28pc

– The second John Grisham film adaptation
– Great cast!
– The cop that informs Matthew McConaughey of the rape is Chris Cooper. Both were also together in the movie Lone Star, which has similar themes. I highly recommend watching Lone Star!
– The story is eerily similar to a case that happened here in Baton Rouge in the 80s
– Red Foreman is the head of the KKK 🤯
– Mickey Mouse again. Apparently he’s the ‘conscience’. Should have been Jiminy Cricket instead
– Why’d the bomb explode when he only threw the device, but not the dynamite? 🤨
– The judge reminds me of the Futurama chicken lawyer 😂
– They’re eating a primarily African-American restaurant
– Matthew McConaughey is so good at playing characters that are really thoughtful and introspective
– “You may win, Jake, but I think we’ve all lost here.”
– Kiefer Sutherland is a great bad guy
– Trials are like tennis. Volleying back and forth. Or like chess, with pieces being sacrificed for a greater good.
– Sandra Bullock’s character seems a bit unnecessary
– I like the ending well enough
